Cemetery Rules & Regulations

Organization: Johnson Station Cemetery is owned by the Johnson Station Cemetery Association, Arlington, TX. It is governed by the Johnson Station Cemetery Association Board of Trustees. The Cemetery Board, consisting of volunteer members, is charged with overseeing its operation and administering its funds. The cemetery is for the burial of citizens and their families in accordance with the guidelines and procedures set forth in the Cemetery Guidelines and this document. Johnson Station Cemetery is a 501-C13 entity.

Cemetery Upkeep: The Cemetery Association shall arrange for regular ground care, including, but not limited to, grass mowing, tree trimming, and shrub and tree removal.

Plot Fees : Payment of a plot fee only grants the use of a particular plot, it does not in any way convey title to property, establish a lease agreement or in any way deprive, release or impair the Board of Trustees from exercising their due authority and responsibilities for the cemetery property. Furthermore, if a payee fails to adhere to these guidelines and procedures, the Board of Trustees reserves the right to cancel all agreements. All plot fees shall be paid in full at the time of the plot assignment.

No one may sell or transfer their rights to any other individual, without prior approval of the Johnson Station Cemetery Board of Directors. Transfer requests must be made in writing and address to the Board and mailed to: Jeff Kemp, 11 Country Club Ct., Arlington, TX 76013. Requests must include the location, row number, lot number, grave space(s) numbers(s) and to whom it is being transferred to.  Include name, address, phone and email for the person who is to receive the transfer.

Refunds: Payments for cemetery plots shall be refunded should the purchaser decide not to use the plot. The purchaser shall notify the Cemetery Board in writing. Refunds shall be made, without interest, upon written notification that the entitlement guidelines can no longer be met.

Markers: Following the interment of the deceased, the plot shall be marked with an appropriate permanent marker at the head of each plot denoting the name of the deceased, within one-hundred twenty (120) days. The cost of the marker will be at the expense of the family. Some markers may take as long as six (6) months to obtain, therefore, we will be flexible in this area. Please have the monument company or the funeral home contact us when the stone is ready to be set so that proper placement can be assured.  

• No monument/marker shall be set until the fee is paid for cemetery personnel to mark.
• Markers and monuments may only be installed by individuals and companies that are licensed and insured to do such work.
• Flat and upright markers/monuments must have at least a four (4) inch deep solid concrete base not to exceed more than four and a half feet (4 ½) in width and twenty-four (24) inches in depth.
• Upright monuments must not exceed five (5) total feet in height overall including base, must not exceed four (4) feet in width, and are only permitted at the head of the grave on a single plot.
• Flat markers can be used at the foot of grave, as long as they are flush with the ground.
• No monument shall be placed until the plot is paid in full.
• Monuments shall only be inscribed with actual name(s) of the deceased being interred.

All markers will be placed in line with other markers in the same row. A Cemetery Association member must be present when grave marker(s) are set in place. The Cemetery Association will not be responsible for vandalism or damage to grave markers and flower vases. It is the expectation of the Board of Trustees that no offensive language or images will be depicted on the grave marker. The Board of Trustees reserves the right to remove any marker deemed offensive to this sacred burial ground.

Flowers: No permanent plantings, decorative articles, or ornamentations shall be allowed. It is further noted that flower arrangements shall be placed close to the grave markers or headstones so as not to interfere with the care and maintenance of the cemetery. The Cemetery Association is authorized to remove and dispose of all live flowers from the cemetery grounds fourteen (14) days following the day of the funeral and/or holiday. Holiday decorations and artificial arrangements may be placed at the grave site but must be removed within twenty-one (21) days from the date of holiday. Periodically all old and faded artificial arrangements will be removed and disposed of. When you remove flowers from your grave(s), please put them in a plastic bag and dispose of them with your home garbage.

Funeral Arrangements: Permission to open graves and allow interments or disinterment must be granted through the Cemetery Association before any grave is opened. A state approved vault, grave liner, or receptacle shall be required for all interments. When a grave is closed, all dirt will be tamped as the grave is refilled. All excess dirt shall be placed where directed by the Cemetery Chair. The Cemetery Association does not provide caskets, burial vaults, or the labor and equipment to open a plot. The Association must be presented with a burial permit in accordance with local and state laws before interment is completed. The Association will not be liable for the burial permit or responsible for the accuracy of the data it contains or the identity of the person to be interred.

Other Considerations: No trees, no benches, no large mounds on graves. No curbs more than one (1”) inch above ground, no lot markers more than one (1”) inch above ground. Must contact an Official before installing either. No fences or other obstructions on lot, or anything else that will hinder the upkeep of cemetery or the digging of graves. Johnson Station Cemetery Association officials have the authority to remove anything not authorized by officials, at the owner’s expense.

Motorized Vehicles: No motorized vehicle shall be permitted in any cemetery except vehicles operated by the city or under contract to the city; Vehicles entering, exiting, or being parked where part or a portion of the cemetery is designated and maintained for entrance, exit or parking.

Due to no records or poor record keeping in years past, there is always the possibility that we could dig into an unmarked or unrecorded grave. In the event this should occur with your selection, we Reserve the Right to relocate your selection to the very closest space (s) nearest your selection, depending on the number of spaces and the availability.

Any excavations in the old part of the Cemetery are strictly the responsibility of the family involved. We accept no responsibility for the location of graves to be opened. We will mark the grave where you select. If there are extra charges by the digging company because of errors in selecting grave location, those extra charges are your responsibility.
